Dry Mounting

Al's Trophies & Frames Inc has two 40x60 vacuum mount presses. The first is a cold mount press where fabric or paper is sprayed with non-yellowing, fast-drying glue formulated by the 3M Company. It is mostly used for fabric mounting because the fabric can be easily removed with most of the residue remaining on the mounting board and not on the fabric.

The second press is a hot press where heat and pressure permanently bonds posters, prints, and photographs to a heat sensitive foam board. This press will remove any dents and creases in the paper.

Al's Trophies & Frames Inc also uses the heat press to apply a canvas textured lamination to the surface of a photograph or print. The lamination comes in two finishes, fine linen, or deep canvas. This technique creates a beautiful final finish when glass is not wanted as a covering for artwork.

Glass and Plexiglas

Al's Trophies & Frames Inc offers five different types of glass. The most common is regular single strength glass. We also have non-glare glass. We have in stock all standard sizes and can cut glass to any specification. We also stock regular and non-glare UV glass to help protect artwork from damaging ultra violet light. We will recommend a special museum glass for original artwork, shadow boxes, and whenever a customer wants the ultimate UV protection and no reflections in their artwork.

Plexiglas is recommended when an art piece is over 40x60 in dimension. It has an advantage of being lightweight and is also unbreakable. Plexiglas is sometimes required to be used in gallery presentations and also best used when artwork needs to be shipped. The disadvantage of Plexiglas is that it is soft. It has a negative charge, attracts dust, and scratches easily. Plexiglas is also more expensive than glass.

Restoration

Our skilled staff can do minor restoration on old frames and art pieces. Including touch up and cleaning, repairing of damaged frames, replacement of glass-even hard to find convex panes and many other services to restore family heirlooms.

Creativity

Our staff has won several national awards in creative custom framing competitions sponsored by nationwide manufactures like Nielson/Bainbridge and Larson/Juhl, and a Holiday Window Decorating Contest sponsored by Winsor Newton Artist Materials. Our Vice President holds a BFA degree from Utah State University

Frames samples
Locally owned and operated, Al's Trophies & Frames Inc has been in the picture framing business for 38 years. Our experience and expertise is unsurpassed. We offer our customers in Logan, UT and the surrounding areas over 600 frame samples to optimize their framing choices. From rustic and ornate woods, to metal and shadow- box moulding, we will help you find the best solutions to enhance your work of art.

With most of our wood moulding “in stock," Al's Trophies & Frames Inc can usually meet any deadline. All of our custom picture frames are made in house. We buy our frame moulding from several reliable suppliers throughout the United States. Producing quality products quickly is one of our specialties.

Readymade Frames

Al's Trophies & Frames Inc has one of the largest selections of readymade frames in the intermountain west. We have in stock all standard sizes from 5x7 to 24x36. Our range of choice is also unsurpassed. We offer a low end, 1 inch wood or metal frame in several colors, that includes glass and is very inexpensive. In contrast, we also cater to the professional artists or photographers that require a gallery quality frame for their original painting or portrait.

Since we are a custom frame shop we also make our own readymade frames. We are always on the lookout for close out or promotional frame sales. With these sale frames we are able to offer our customer a custom frame at a readymade price. Also as with all of our custom moulding, we are left with many small ends or leftovers from the lengths or sticks of moulding. With these small pieces of molding we make what we call a mini frame. We have a wall of frames where these minis are featured, starting at 3.5x4, 4x5, 5x7, 6x8, 7x9, 8x10 and square 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, 6x6, 7x7 and 8x8. All mini frames are available at readymade prices.

Custom Matting

We utilize modern computerized mat cutter technology. This specialized mat cutter will produce a perfect mat every time. The bevels or edges of the mat are cut smooth and precise and the corners have no overcuts. Double mats line up perfectly and multiple opening mats can be previewed and modified before they are actually cut. The computer driven cutter will do V-groves, specialty corners, ovals, domes, and many other shapes and designs with a touch of a button.

Al's Trophies & Frames Inc offers a wide selection of mat boards from all the major manufactures such as Crescent, Bainbridge, Artique, and Savage specialty mat boards. Most mats are acid-free, but some are more archival than others. Mats can vary in prices depending on their archival qualities. Fabric mats such as suede and linen have a high price point along with Crescent Rag and Bainbridge Alphamat. We stock more than 200 mat colors and can order almost any type or color of mat board within a week. Our mat price schedule is very competitive and we will meet or beat any competitor's price.
